Literacy

Samantha - Aged 10 Our reading scheme is made up of at least eight reading schemes providing a wide variety of attractive, well-sequenced books. It starts in the Nursery with pre-readers (such as the "I can" and "I am" series, Open door, Sunshine readers and New Way readers) and leads on to the main scheme (Ginn 360, Story World, Story Chest, Flying Boot, Oxford Reading Tree, Tiddlywinks, All Abroad and Humming birds). There is a well-stocked fiction and non-fiction library which the children are encouraged to use fully. Children usually read to a teacher every day. They take a book home in their book bag every evening to read to their parents.

Lilia - Aged 5 In the Nursery the children learn to sit properly, concentrate for a short time and form their letters correctly with the aid of Letterland. From Year 2 onwards, a good cursive hand writing is taught. Fountain pens are used from Year 3 upwards to enable children to present their creative stories, poems and other forms of writing in the best possible way.

Staff are very careful to speak to children in a positive manner, to enunciate clearly and to use a wide vocabulary, thereby giving the children good examples of spoken English. In Drama lessons, children learn to project their voices and speak in public
