French
French is taught throughout the school, from Nursery upwards, in an active, fun fashion. We aim to:
- Give children confidence to speak in French, even if they don't know all the words, by using actions and adapting English words.
- Not to panic when they hear the teacher babbling away in French, to pick out important words and to guess unknown words, using other, non-verbal clues.
- Encourage children to learn necessary basic vocabulary and phrases by making up songs with catchy tunes using simple phrases and a lot of repetition.
- People are often surprised at how good the children's accent is... this is because they start young, have only heard native or near native models, and just don't think about it!
- Our older children are clearly not bilingual, but they can make friends on a campsite in France and even go to buy the Baguette for you in the morning.
