Broad general knowledge

Our policy is "Everyone is interesting, let's find out". The lower school has had visits from the Fire-service, a policeman, an ambulance crew, a blind man, and a nurse. One staff member brought in her new baby to show how to bathe him and change his nappy. A local political candidate spent half a day in school leading a wide ranging discussion about the life of a politician and the role and responsibilities of local government. A dentist came to talk to the children about his work.

The Fold School demonstrates non-discriminatory and inclusive policies, practices, and pedagogies. We have an inclusive school culture. Our children are naturally accepting and curious of all differences, be they related to academic, sport and creative achievements, religious beliefs, ethnic origin or physical appearance. They are taught not to judge but to rejoice in the rich tapestry of life. As well as teaching about different cultures and religions as part of our history, geography, citizenship and PSHE, French and English curricula, we also celebrate cultural and religious diversity as and when it arises in the school. For instance, following circle time Year 4 children discovered that one child was of the Bihar faith. The child and his mother were invited to tell the group what it meant to them. Children with differences are helped to explain them to other children in the group in a respectful and caring manner.
