Communication with parents

It is agreed with parents that if either the staff or parents have any concerns about their child's academic progress, social development or behaviour they will notify the other party immediately and arrange an appointment to discuss the issues in detail as soon as possible.

Parents are invited to termly Parents' Evenings where they meet for 10 minutes with each of their child's teachers to see all the work completed during the term by their child and to discuss progress and any concerns. We do not give termly written reports as most parents prefer the face-to-face discussion. The school of course keeps written reports which are available to parents on request. These reports are used to write detailed leaving reports for parents and future schools.

A whole-school national curriculum record keeping scheme has been adapted over the years to meet our specific needs. When children move from one team to the next, current books are passed on with them and staff meetings are set up to discuss each child's needs, aptitudes, attainments and specificities. Many teachers teach a short period in the team below. New pupils are discussed at staff meetings as information emerges (we find past records are often flimsy and so encourage parents to give us as much information as possible).

High co-operation between staff (staff meetings, communication book, tea-breaks, e-mails and texts etc.) enables the rapid dissemination of information about pupils' current problems, concerns, successes and breakthroughs which may need following up in the next lessons.
